Divine Junior School
Where we are now:
Divine Junior School has resumed classes! Thank you for continuing to give so generously. Thanks staff for your work at the school. We praise God for every one of you. Any size gift is a big blessing. We are praying God leads us in keeping the school strong. PLEASE help us discover more sources of funding.
Background:
Lack of education in the key to so many struggles in Uganda. The lack of education leads to decreased ability to earn a living wage, early marriage, larger families and life choices that can increase the chance of domestic abuse, contraction of HIV and early death. Multiple studies indicate increasing the length of time a child remains in school leads to a reduction in such occurrences.
Our children in Masaka are especially vulnerable. 80% of kids have not completed secondary education and a third cannot read. (UNICEF (2012) ‘Progress for children: A report card on adolescents’) Rock Kids Uganda and Divine Soccer Ministries focuses on children who have lost one or both of their parents and/or are in dangerous circumstances. For the 2.7 million children who have been orphaned in Uganda, the ability to attend school is difficult due to the compulsory school fees which must be paid. However, in a country where the average wage earned is approximately $40 per month, the school fees are simply not affordable for most, let alone orphaned, abandoned and single parent children. In fact, the extended family members that could help an orphan relative child, see school fees as a major factor in deciding whether to take in an additional child. By providing the school fees, the orphans and single parent families will have hope for a better life.
By partnering with us, you can provide a junior school now on property with a permanent home for these children. Hope House is within walking distance of the school we have almost completed building. Divine Soccer Ministries has worked directly with the Uganda government to accomplish this.
Families in Uganda are not the only ones facing the problem of obtaining basic needs. The schools are also faced with the difficulty of providing a good learning environment for the students. In addition to assisting the orphaned students with their school fees, Rock Kidz Uganda is also working to improve the environment in which they learn and the materials the educators have available. Rock Kidz Uganda wants the schools we are building and working with to be a haven for the students.
You can help with this right now.
Ephesians 2:8-10
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
